While scriptural reference or prayer may be an element you choose to incorporate into counseling sessions, Christian counseling integrates spiritual, psychological, relational, and behavioral perspectives.

There is grace and forgiveness for our mistakes and often counseling is a place to begin the healing process. There is often a perception that Christian counselors offer simplistic answers or rely solely on scripture, but Licensed Professional Counselors utilize evidence-based practices alongside biblical principles to address complex emotional and psychological challenges.

In fact, you may choose to never talk about Jesus in your counseling sessions. Some people choose not to integrate religion into their counseling process but they appreciate sharing a faith-based perspective with their counselor. At Mullins Counseling, you will lead the content of sessions. So if you consider yourself very religious or you do not have an active faith but you are curious about a faith-based perspective in counseling, you choose how to integrate that into your counseling session.

Christians commonly feel shame when considering the prospect of working with a counselor. Yes, the Bible tells us “do not be anxious about anything” (Philippians 4:6), “cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you” (Psalms 55:22), and “do not fear, I will help you” (Isaiah 41:13). Scripture is good and true AND we can so easily take it out of context. God allows us all emotions and He does not expect us to suffer them alone. God created us for relationship and just as easily as relationships lead to pain, He also uses them for healing. Counseling is a purposeful relationship that often leads to greater self-awareness, emotional resolve, and strength.
